Capturing Gold Finches...
Goldfinches are a beautiful and colorful bird. In the spring, males become bright yellow as they vie for the attentions of the opposite sex. Watching them is always a treat and photographing them reveals some very interesting aerial movements. However, photographing goldfinches can be quite challenging since they move very quickly and have a high wing speed. The focal plane in which to capture these birds is also very narrow and since they don't hover in place like hummingbirds, they must be captured using a tripod in most cases. This gallery of photos was captured around a thistle sack feeder on my cabin deck where the goldfinches were feeding.
